Alyaksandr Atroshchankau: It’s not freedom, but ongoing service of sentence in fact

The recently released from prison spokesman for Andrei Sannikov has registered in police today.

Alyaksandr Atroshchankau was told in the Frunzenski district police department that he should inform police if he decides to change his residence or travel for more than a month.

Asked if Atroshchankau trips abroad were allowed, police officers said vaguely they did not have information that his right to leave the country was restricted.

The political prisoner was warned that stricter surveillance measures would be applied if he violated the administrative legislation over three times. Alyaksandr was told surveillance measures would not be lifted until his conviction was not removed from his record.

“It is not a release. My rights are still restricted. I will be under constant control. I may be arrested and thrown into prison at any moment. Formal surveillance can be replaced by real prison term at any time. In principle, I am still serving punishment,” Atroshchankau told charter97.org.

Alyaksandr Atroshchankau, a spokesman for presidential candidate Andrei Sannikov, was sentenced to four years in a medium security penal colony after the post-election protests. Atroshchankau was released on September 14 on a decree of pardon.
