Residential community for officials in Drazdy grows

  • 8.12.2014, 8:35

New houses are being built in the luxurious community for government officials outside Minsk.

The community in Minsk's suburb Vesninka consists of several dozens of houses near Drazdy Reservoir. The project was approved despite objecgtions of the locals, whose gardens were seized and alloted for the construction, Nasha Niva reports.

The city authorities formed more than 40 plots lands. All of them were already alloted among owners. But the space appeared to be too small, so even the place marked in the project as a recreational zone will be used to construct houses.

According to the project that was proposed for a public discussion, the southern side of Verbnaya Street was planted with trees. According to the basic development plan, the street bordered on the lot designed for a sports and recreation centre.

But in practice, the lot is used for the construction of another house owned by Aliaksandr Rakavets. The Minsk city executive committee alloted 15 ares of land in accordance with decision No. 1373/1 of May 29, 2014.

Aliaksandr Rakavets is a famous banker who heads Moscow-Minsk Bank.

The bank has changed the owner recently. A stake of Russia's VTB Bank was bought by the National Bank of Belarus and the Presidential Property Directorate for $55.7 million. The step makes the bank free of the EU sanctions.

Rakavets became the head of Moscow-Minsk Bank 14 years ago. He had earlier worked for other financial institutions. In the middle 1990, Rakavets was the chairman of the board of Sodruzhestvo Bank with Siarhei Rumas as a deputy chairman. They also worked together in Severo-Zapad Bank.

The foundation of Rakavets's house looks lonely today, but we can suppose that other houses will be constructed nearby.
