It was a drone attack against the air base.
Russia announced that a drone attacked the Shaikovka strategically vital air base in the Kaluga region on September 17.
One of the Russian Telegram channels stated that for this purpose the occupiers scrambled Mi-28 helicopters. They say they “intercepted and destroyed” the target, obozrevatel.com reports.
This is at least the third attack on the specified air base during Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Russian propaganda admitted that UAVs flew up to Shaikovka in October 2022 and August 2023.
Two enemy TU 22M3 supersonic missile carrier-bombers were destroyed during a drone attack on the said airfield on August 21 of this year.
Also, the Russian Shaikovka air base is located at a distance of more than 350 km from the border with Ukraine.
