This opinion was expressed by Max Boot, a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, in his article for The Washington Post. In his opinion, Ukraine’s defenders could launch a counteroffensive if they increased mobilization and accelerated supplies of Western weapons.

He noted that the Ukrainians are currently fighting the hardest part of the war. The coming months will be very difficult for Ukraine, as it will continue to defend its positions and restore its destroyed and damaged energy infrastructure. Therefore, according to Boot, it is very important that the West does not waver in its support for Ukraine.

“We have difficult months ahead of us as Ukraine struggles to hold its front lines and restore its destroyed energy infrastructure. The West must show that it will not waver in its support. Ukrainians, who bear the brunt of this terrible conflict, are certainly not wavering,” Max Boot wrote.

At the same time, he noted that it is also important for Ukraine to learn to provide itself with equipment and weapons, since assistance from other countries can be unstable.

Boot also noted that the United States should grant Ukraine permission to strike deep into the aggressor country of Russia with American weapons, since this will help contain the Russian occupiers and allow Ukraine to launch an active counteroffensive next year.
