Forestry Workers Revolt Over Salaries In Homel Region

Employees are also unhappy about broken chainsaws and vehicles.

Employees of the Vetka special forestry enterprise sent a complaint to the Homel industrial forestry association on April 10 about the actions of the institution's officials. It is reported that the association's general director Ihar Dziehtsiaryk held a meeting with representatives of the workforce on the same day — the “frank conversation” lasted more than two and a half hours, Flagstaff noted.

The special forestry enterprise did not report the essence of its appeal, but from the text it is possible to understand what led to the rebellion against the management: low wages, broken chainsaws and vehicles.

“As it turned out during the conversation, a number of issues raised in the appeal were confirmed. As a result, specific tasks were set for the management of the special forestry enterprise right during the meeting, although, as it turned out, all the issues could have been resolved within the team and did not require any special efforts,” the report notes.

The website of the Vetka special forestry enterprise lists salaries for available vacancies. Thus, a lumberjack is promised 1,000-1,300 rubles depending on the fulfillment of the production standard, a forestry foreman — 900-1,100 rubles, an electrician and an electric welder — 1,200-1,300 rubles.

At the same time, specialists are urgently needed for six vacancies. A forester is being looked for as they offer the lowest salary — only from 700 to 1,000 rubles.

For the forestry industry, these are really low salaries.
