To demonstrate diplomatic strength against Putin's annual military parade.
The Ukrainian government has invited European leaders to visit Kyiv on 9 May - the day Moscow traditionally holds a military parade, Politico reports.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga delivered the invitation to his European Union counterparts during a meeting in Luxembourg on 8 April. He urged European leaders to come to Kyiv in solidarity with Ukraine.
‘We call to demonstrate our unity and determination in the face of the biggest aggression in Europe since World War II,’ Sibiga said.
In addition, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wants to use this opportunity to meet with coalition leaders who are willing to define security guarantees for Ukraine after a possible ceasefire agreement is reached.
The location of this potential meeting has not yet been specified. At the same time, European diplomats said on condition of anonymity that visits by heads of state, including future German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, could take place in early May.
