The US does have a serious ceasefire plan, which Ukraine actually agreed to in mid-March. However, the Russians were slow and insisted on their own terms, writes The New York Times.

The US believed that they had agreed on a partial ceasefire — one to prevent attacks on energy infrastructure, and another in the Black Sea. The latter never took effect.

“But the Russians were slow, insisting on new terms, including the ‘denazification’ of the Ukrainian government and the resignation of (Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky — editorial note) Zelensky,” the publication writes.
