‘They Will Just Put Money In Their Pockets’

A Belarusian has spoken out about Lukashenka's idea of building a second nuclear power plant.

A regular reader of the Charter97.org website sent a letter to the editorial office in which he blasted the idea of dictator Lukashenka to build a second nuclear power plant in Belarus:

— We hadn't even had time to recover from the construction of the first nuclear power plant when they began actively discussing suitable locations for the second. Belarus, which suffered from the Chernobyl disaster, is being deliberately turned into a nuclear testing ground. In addition to a nuclear power plant, there is also a ghostly tactical nuclear weapon.

There are no joyful exclamations from the “electorate”. After all, after the commissioning of the Astrovets NPP, for some reason people thought that electricity would become significantly cheaper for them. At least, that's what the dictator's gang promised. At first, I entered into heated debates, trying to convey to the public various aspects — from environmental to economic. My neighbors and colleagues growled at me angrily: “Piotr, what do you know about this? They are doing their best for us, for the common people.”

Now that the power plant is ready, and all the neighbors have refused to buy electricity from it, the Belarusians themselves are forced to pay for its operation.

And here again is a loud statement about the plan to build a second nuclear power plant. No need to think — why do we need it? The answer is obvious: money. Only the Russians will issue a loan for its construction, no one else will give it at any interest rate. They will spread the money into pockets, and then as in that proverb: either the donkey dies, or the shah dies. In our case, it would be better for the shah to die.
