The post was previously held by his nephew.
Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov's son, 17-year-old Adam Kadyrov, has probably been given a new high position - secretary of the republic's Security Council. The ‘Agency’ has drawn attention to this, noting that the republic's Security Council and the official Chechen media have started mentioning Adam in this very status.
‘Within the framework of fulfilling the instruction of the Secretary of the Chechen Republic Security Council Adam Kadyrov, his deputies Aslan Zhulagov and Salambek Abdrashitov held a regular working meeting with Rizvan Zalaev, first deputy head of the Main Directorate of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry in the Chechen Republic,’ the publication quoted the Security Council's report as saying. This text was reprinted almost verbatim by the state media of Grozny-Inform and Chechnya Today, which were established by the Chechen government.
Previously, the post of Secretary of the Security Council was held by Khamzat Kadyrov, the nephew of the republic's head. There has been no official announcement of any changes in the leadership of the advisory body. The website of the Chechen Security Council still lists Khamzat Kadyrov as its secretary. The last news about him in state publications was dated 7 April, on which day he was awarded an anniversary medal by the Federation of Trade Unions of the Chechen Republic.
Adam Kadyrov came to the centre of public attention in 2023 after he beat Nikita Zhuravel, accused of burning the Koran, in Grozny's pre-trial detention centre. After the incident, Adam began receiving numerous honours and appointments.
His awards include the title of Hero of Chechnya, the Order ‘Duslyk’ (the second highest in Tatarstan), the highest order of Karachay-Cherkessia ‘For Services to the KCR’, the Order ‘For Services to the Kabardino-Balkar Republic’, the Order ‘For Service to the Religion of Islam’ of the first degree, as well as the award ‘For Services to the Ummah’. In March, the Rosgvardiya awarded him a departmental medal ‘For Combat Distinction’ for his ‘significant contribution’ to the war against Ukraine - despite the fact that Kadyrov's son had not taken part in the fighting.
The post of secretary of the Security Council is not the first high appointment for the 17-year-old. In March, he became supervisor of the republican Interior Ministry, and previously served as head of the department for ensuring the security of the head of the region. In October 2024, his name was included in the Book of Records of Russia as the youngest head of the security service of the head of a Federation subject - at that time he was 16 years old.
