Zelensky Met With Trump In St. Peter's Basilica In Rome

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with US President Donald Trump in Rome.

This was reported by Suspilne with reference to the presidential press secretary Serhiy Nikiforov.

Both leaders arrived in the capital of Italy to attend the funeral of Pope Francis.

The meeting between Trump and Zelensky has ended as of now. The presidents have already arrived at St. Peter's Basilica for the farewell ceremony with Pope Francis.

Sky News, citing sources in the Vatican, reported that Zelensky and Trump agreed to meet after the pontiff's funeral.

It is known that the US president will not stay in Rome for long. According to the schedule, at 13:50 Minsk time, Trump should leave for the airport.

Details of the meeting

The White House said that Trump and Zelensky had a "productive meeting" before the funeral of Pope Francis.

"President Trump and President Zelensky met privately today and had a very productive discussion," said White House Communications Director Stephen Cheng, quoted by AFP.

Head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak briefly commented on the meeting between Zelensky and Trump. He published a photo of the presidents on his Telegram channel and wrote: "Constructive."

The day before his visit to Rome, Donald Trump said that he could meet with Zelensky. The Presidential Office did not comment on the meeting between the leaders, but AFP, citing a high-ranking official, reported that the meeting would take place.

This is the first personal meeting between Zelensky and Trump after the spat in the Oval Office.

It is important to note that on February 28, Volodymyr Zelensky visited the White House, where he met with US President Donald Trump. During a meeting in the Oval Office with reporters, a verbal altercation broke out between Zelensky, Trump, and US Vice President J.D. Vance.
