It would be the biggest defence budget ever.
US President Donald Trump said that his administration has approved the country's defence budget of about $ 1 trillion.
This is reported by Bloomberg.
‘We are saving money, but we need to build an army, and we need to be strong, because there are a lot of bad forces around right now,’ Trump said at the White House during a meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
He added that his administration would approve a budget that would be ‘the biggest budget we've ever passed for the military.’
Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth also reacted, posting the following post on the X social network:
‘NOW: the first TRILLION dollar budget for the US Department of Defence. President Donald Trump is rebuilding our military forces - and FAST,’ he wrote.
Bloomberg writes that the Trump administration has yet to release a budget request for fiscal year 2026 as the government operates under a stopgap funding measure this year. No draft budget is expected until late spring.
The publication also recalled former Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin, who recommended that the US increase defence spending by about $50 billion over the projected figure for fiscal year 2026. At the same time, the Pentagon's budget could exceed $1 trillion in the coming years.
As Bloomberg writes, Hegseth has been one of the most ardent supporters of Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)
efforts to cut spending. At the moment, the Pentagon, with a budget of $850 billion a year and roughly 2 million employees, is the largest in government. In February, Hegseth ordered an 8% cut in some unspecified categories of US Defence Department and military services spending, redirecting those funds to higher-priority programmes such as missile defence.
