Silver Of Israeli Championship Won By Girl Whose Family Fled From Repression In Belarus

Her father was detained in Homel for taking pictures of Russian soldiers involved in the attack on Ukraine.

Marta Borodina, 11, has won a silver medal at the Israeli championship in rhythmic gymnastics. Her family was forced to leave Belarus for political reasons, reports Radio Svaboda.

The girl plans to continue gymnastics and wants to reach the adult professional level. ‘I want to do it in two years. To pass all the requirements and enter the professional league. I will have to train a lot and constantly win all the championships,’ Radio Svaboda reports her words.

On 29 March 2022, Marta's father Oleg Borodin was detained in Homel for taking pictures of the Russian military, involved in the attack on Ukraine. The man photographed two drunk servicemen, who were walking from a shop with bags of food and alcohol. He was sentenced to days of arrest, after serving which Borodin left Belarus, his family was able to travel to him only after some time.

He had a furniture firm in Belarus. In Israel, Oleg Borodin got a job as a carpenter. When the country was attacked by Hamas, he became a volunteer - he helped the victims and the Israeli military.
