Response To Trump's Tariffs: Senate Democrat Proposes A Measure

The politician has initiated a new bipartisan privileged resolution.

Senator Ron Wyden, the leading Democrat on the US Senate Finance Committee, introduced the resolution on April 8. It is designed to prevent US President Donald Trump from imposing tariffs.

This was reported by The Hill.

Wyden said during a hearing he’s “proposing a new bipartisan privileged resolution to end the latest crop of global tariffs that are clobbering American families and small businesses.”

“Members on both sides of the aisle ought to know that this is a call to action, and Congress must step in to reign this president on trade,” he added.

The move comes as members of both parties have expressed support for a review of Trump's trade powers in light of recent tariffs imposed on nearly all foreign trading partners and growing fears of a recession.

In particular, Goldman Sachs analysts warned in a recent report that the likelihood of a U.S. recession has risen to 45%, just a week after they had forecast a 35% chance amid growing fears of a looming trade war.
