Voting for Germany's new chancellor will take place on May 6.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who will soon leave office, wants to continue to remain in the Bundestag. German government spokesman Steffen Gebestreit told the newspaper Tagesspiegel on Thursday, May 1.
In particular, Scholz plans to focus intensively on his own constituency after his term ends. At the same time, he ruled out the possibility of obtaining supervisory board mandates.
The publication writes that Scholz was able to retain his direct mandate in Potsdam in the early parliamentary elections in February.
"Olaf Scholz has always made it clear that being the ninth chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany was the greatest honor of his life, and as such he is not seeking positions on supervisory boards, etc. etc.," the speaker said.
The publication adds that although Scholz is a lawyer by training, he has no plans to return to law practice.
On March 25, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier signed documents dismissing Olaf Scholz and 14 of his government ministers.
Voting for Germany's new chancellor will take place on May 6. This date was announced by the Bundestag.
The new chancellor should be the head of the CDU/CSU bloc Friedrich Merz. For this to happen, the Christian Democratic Union, the Christian Social Union and the Social Democratic Party must approve a coalition agreement.
