The bullet went through and through.
Well-known Ukrainian public figure and popular blogger Sergey Sternenko said on Thursday that he had been attacked.
"I was attacked. Wounded," Sternenko wrote in his Telegram channel and immediately added in the next message that his life was out of danger and that the shooter had already been detained.
Sternenko thanked the Security Service of Ukraine: "If it weren't for them, I wouldn't be able to write anything anymore." He said that the bullet had gone through without hitting any important organs, and he had already undergone surgery.
The Security Service of Ukraine later said that it had prevented Sternenko's murder and confirmed the arrest of the shooter.
"Security Service officers have prevented the murder of a well-known public activist and volunteer Serhiy Sternenko. Today an attempt was made on his life with a firearm," the SBU said in a statement.
The President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky has reacted to the attempted assassination of the activist.
"The head of the Security Service of Ukraine has reported on the investigation into the circumstances of the attack on volunteer Serhiy Sternenko. The Security Service of Ukraine detained the attacker - promptly, thank you for that. All the facts regarding the attack will be presented to the society," the President of Ukraine stressed.
Serhiy Sternenko heads the public organization "Nebayduzhi" ("Neravnodushchie"), in the past he was the founder and an active participant of the movement "People's Lustration", and also headed the Odessa branch of the "Right Sector". Sternenko maintains a YouTube blog with two million subscribers.
Sternenko's life has already been attempted - three times in 2018, when he participated in protests against the destruction of the Summer Theater by Odessa's local authorities and organized actions against Russian cultural expansion in Odessa.
In the latest assassination attempt, Sternenko fatally wounded one of the attackers, Ivan Kuznetsov. The second participant in the assassination attempt, Andrey Isaikul, later fled Ukraine.
