Putin Was Put In An Uncomfortable Position During The Parade

U.S. analysts have revealed the details.

The occupiers failed all of Putin's goals before May 9

The Russian army is mired in fighting in Ukraine

So Putin had nothing to say about the war against Ukraine at the parade and had to make it up

The Russian occupation army has failed to achieve any of the goals set by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in a year. The invaders have failed to capture a single significant city in Ukraine since the occupation of Avdeevka last February, nor have they been able to reach the admin borders of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

So Kremlin chief Putin had nothing to say about the war against Ukraine during his speech at the May 9 parade, except only that Russia "supports" the occupiers fighting on the territory of the neighboring state. This was pointed out by analysts at the US-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

The analysts noted that the Ukrainian military, supported by Western partners, did not allow the Russian occupiers to achieve any of the "goals" that the Kremlin had stated. Therefore, Putin had to limit himself to general phrases about the so-called "SWO" during his speech at the parade. After all, the invaders simply had no such achievements to boast about.

"Russian forces have not captured a single significant town in Ukraine since the capture of Avdeevka in February 2024, and the only medium-sized settlement that Russian forces have captured in Ukraine since December 2024 is Velyka Novoselka (pre-war population of 5,000)," ISW noted.

Analysts recalled that in the media even before the parade in Moscow there was information that the Russian occupiers are trying to seize Pokrovsk, Chasov Yar, Toretsk, as well as the non-occupied part of Lugansk region, and in Donetsk region they are trying to reach the administrative border with Dnipropetrovsk region. It was noted that the occupants were given a deadline of May 9 for this purpose. However, the invaders did not meet this deadline.

The ISW expressed its belief that Ukraine was able to slow down and sometimes even completely stop the advance of the Russian occupiers thanks to long-range strikes and improved integration of tactical drone operations with defensive operations and counterattacks.

"Ukraine's successful integration of Ukrainian drone innovators and operators with ground troops appears to have stopped Russia's offensive on Pokrovsk and Toretsk in 2024 and early 2025. Ukrainian long-range strikes against Russian ammunition depots, defense industry facilities, and oil and gas infrastructure have at times undermined Russia's ability to supply units on the front lines and exacerbated the rising costs of Russia's war against Ukraine," ISW noted.
