Putin Rejected A Cease-fire From May 12

Russia proposes to start talks with Ukraine on May 15 in Istanbul.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has offered to resume direct talks with Ukraine as early as next week.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing a broadcast of the Kremlin chief's speech.

In a speech to the press, Putin said he offered to resume talks with Ukraine on May 15 in Istanbul. He also noted that Russia has repeatedly proposed steps toward a ceasefire (though rightly speaking, it has put forward conditions) and has allegedly never abandoned dialog with the Ukrainian side.

"We propose to start without delay next Thursday, May 15, in Istanbul. Where they were held earlier and where they were interrupted," Putin said.

The Kremlin chief announced that he will have a conversation with Turkish President Redzep Tayyip Erdogan tomorrow. Putin expressed hope that the Turkish leader will provide a platform for talks.

Reminder, yesterday in Kiev held a meeting of the "coalition of the resolute", which was attended by: Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

After the meeting, all five held a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump and set a deadline for Putin to agree to a full 30-day ceasefire.

In particular, Zelensky announced that the ceasefire should begin to take effect on May 12, but if the Kremlin refuses, then new sanctions will be imposed against Russia. Macron noted that a sanctions package has been prepared.

In the course of the night's speech, Putin effectively ignored this proposal, never saying whether he agreed to it or not.

It is also important to note another nuance. Zelensky told Trump yesterday that Ukraine is ready for direct talks with Russia, but only if a ceasefire is reached.
