Bloomberg: India Furious That Trump Forced It Into A Truce With Pakistan

In New Delhi, senior officials were literally seething with outrage.

After US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, senior officials in the Indian capital New Delhi were literally "seething with outrage": the US leader's publication "caught several key figures in the country involved in the conflict off guard".

The outrage in India amid Trump's intervention in resolving the armed conflict with Pakistan was reported by Bloomberg on May 12.

Officials familiar with the situation told the publication that it was not the White House's efforts to resolve the conflict itself that angered Indian leaders, as talks with Pakistan took place even though missiles and drones were regularly flying in both directions. They continued "behind the scenes" of the shelling.

Indian officials were angered by the fact that Donald Trump with his intervention allegedly "sought to overshadow" the country's Prime Minister Nanendra Modi, as well as to undermine the long-standing efforts of the Indian side in clarifying the territorial problem. At issue is the so-called disputed territory, the state of Kashmir.

Another point that has so infuriated the Indian side is making India and Pakistan on an equal footing. Senior Indian officials have tried their best to resist precisely the formation of a level playing field position because, it is noted, "the country's economy has begun to grow rapidly" ahead of a hostile Pakistan.

"Many Indians are angry at the U.S. and see the outcome as tantamount to defeat, increasing pressure on Modi to respond harshly to any future attacks on civilians or cross-border provocations," Bloomberg noted.

Pakistan met Trump's truce with joy

In contrast to India, Pakistan met Trump's truce announcement with joy, declaring victory. Thus, on the evening of May 10, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif delivered a speech to the nation during which he declared that his country had "won the war."

Despite the alleged operation of the truce between India and Pakistan, officials familiar with the matter note: During several days of intense fighting between the countries, certain "red lines" were crossed. This could make any other future clashes more unpredictable.
