In Russia, 10 Prisoners Recruited For War Have Escaped From A Training Ground

Almost all of them were serving sentences for serious crimes.

Ten former prisoners who had signed contracts with the Defense Ministry to be sent to the war against Ukraine escaped from a training ground near Rostov-on-Don, regional media reported.

A source 161.ru in the security services said it happened on the night of May 8-9. "In the morning they did not come to the unit for the issuance of uniforms. They had no weapons with them," he said.

The interlocutor added that the escapees had been recruited in colonies, almost all of them were serving sentences for serious crimes: murder, rape, drug dealing and robbery.

Four newly minted contract soldiers were detained in the first day at the exit from Rostov region, the whereabouts of two more have already been established, they promise to be caught soon. The remaining four are being sought by the military police. According to Donday's source, the escape took place a few days before they were sent to the front.
