His predecessor in office was also involved in a corruption case.

In Russia, the head of Novocherkassk administration Yuri Lysenko has been detained in a case of taking a bribe on a particularly large scale. This was reported by RBC, TASS and local edition "161" citing sources in law enforcement agencies and the regional government of the Russian region. A criminal case has been opened against the mayor under part 6 of article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, and he faces up to 15 years in prison.

A law enforcement source told "161" that Lysenko was detained on the evening of May 13. Employees of the Investigative Committee of Russia conducted searches at his place of residence, as well as in his office. According to the source, the operative services had been monitoring the mayor for a long time, and earlier he had already testified in the land fraud case. The representative of the Rostov region government in conversation with "161" said that the regional cabinet of ministers provides full assistance to the investigation.

An RBC source in law enforcement agencies, the investigation has information that in 2024 Lysenko through his subordinate received a bribe from a developer in the form of a land plot and services for the construction of a residential building on it - the total value of the bribe is estimated at more than 8 million rubles. As explained by the interlocutor of the publication, these material benefits could be provided in exchange for assistance in organizing the construction of a school at the expense of the budget on the territory being developed by the developer, as well as for the inclusion of this object in the regional program of integrated development of territories.

Besides Lysenko himself, his subordinate was also detained, RBC writes. He could face up to 12 years in prison for mediation in bribery.

Yuri Lysenko became the head of Novocherkassk administration in 2020. Before that, since 2012, he held the post of deputy mayor, supervising organizational issues and information policy, among other things. In 2010, Lysenko tried to become mayor, but then lost the election to the CPRF candidate Anatoly Kondratenko.

Lysenko's predecessor as mayor, Igor Zyuzin, was also involved in a corruption case. In 2021, he was fined for bribery, and two years later, in 2023, after an appeal, he was sentenced to eight years in a strict regime colony.
