The country's Foreign Ministry summoned a representative of the Russian Embassy.
A Russian Su-35 fighter jet violated Estonian airspace on Tuesday evening, May 13. This was reported by the General Staff of the country's Defense Ministry.
The report says that the Russian plane stayed in Estonian airspace for less than a minute. It had no flight plan and its transponder was turned off. In addition, the fighter jet had no two-way radio contact with Estonian air traffic control, the General Staff said.
It also said that Portuguese F-16 fighter jets, now stationed at Emar air base as part of NATO's air security mission in the Baltic region, responded to the incident by conducting a reconnaissance flight.
On May 14, the Estonian Foreign Ministry summoned the attaché of the Russian Embassy in Estonia and handed him a note to that effect.
This was the first violation of Estonian airspace by a Russian aircraft in 2025.
In February, Russian aircraft also violated Finnish and Polish airspace.
