The two countries also agreed to deepen cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence.

President Donald Trump has promised to strengthen US ties with the United Arab Emirates. He announced deals with this Gulf state totaling more than $200 billion.

This was reported by Reuters.

The two countries also agreed to deepen cooperation in artificial intelligence.

After Trump met with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the White House said he announced deals that included a commitment by Etihad Airways to invest $14.5 billion in 28 Boeing 787 and 777x jets powered by engines made by GE Aerospace.

The U.S. Commerce Department said the two countries also agreed to establish a "U.S.-UAE Partnership to Accelerate the Development of Artificial Intelligence," and Trump and Sheikh Mohamed attended the opening of a new 5GW AI campus, which will be the largest outside the United States.

Sources said the agreements will give the Gulf country increased access to advanced artificial intelligence chips from the United States after it previously faced restrictions over Washington's concerns that China could gain access to the technology.

Trump's trip

Trump kicked off a visit to the UAE on the last leg of his tour of the wealthy Gulf state, hailing Doha's plans to invest $10 billion in a U.S. military facility during a trip to Qatar.

"I have no doubt that the relationship will only get stronger and better," Trump said in a meeting with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

"Your wonderful brother came to Washington a few weeks ago and told us about your generous announcement regarding $1.4 trillion," Trump said, referring to the UAE's pledge to invest $1.4 trillion in the United States over 10 years.

Trump was referring to Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, brother of Sheikh Mohamed, the UAE's national security adviser and chairman of Abu Dhabi's two major sovereign wealth funds.

Trump said he would likely return to Washington on May 16 after a regional trip that began May 13, though he said "the destination is virtually unknown." Trump has hinted that he may stop in Istanbul for talks on Ukraine.
