A Belarusian Banknote With Only Zeros In Its Number Is Sold At Auction

The stakes are very high.

A banknote of 100,000 Belarusian rubles of 2000 was put up for auction on one of the auction sites in Belarus. Perhaps there would be nothing extraordinary in it, if it were not for the serial number: "at 0000000," noted Blizko.by.

The owner of the banknote claims that its condition is described as Extremely Fine (XF or EF) and that it "would adorn any collection."

The auction began on April 21. On the morning of May 2 made 34 bids, the current price is 1750 rubles. The auction will end on May 4 at 11 p.m.

The 100,000 Belarusian rubles banknote was put into circulation on July 15, 2005 and was in circulation until January 1, 2017. At the time of its release, its equivalent amounted to 46.5 US dollars. After denomination, the banknote was replaced by a Br10 bill. The current auction rate (1,750 rubles, or $578) is more than 12 times higher than its dollar equivalent when the banknote went into circulation 30 years ago.
