Ukrainian defenders have captured Togolese citizens who fought on the side of Russia. Among them are young boys who were lured by the Russians by deception.

The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Togo reports that.

"The Togolese authorities have recently received reports of cases of capture and detention of Togolese citizens by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This happened during their participation in military operations on the side of the Russian armed forces in the current conflict," the Foreign Ministry said.

The ministry added that most of those Togolese who were captured went to Russia on scholarship programs offered by Russian structures.

The ministry urged Togolese citizens, especially young people planning to study abroad, to exercise maximum vigilance and carefully check any offers of scholarship programs - especially if it is about studying in Russia
