Putin Has A Cynical Response To Zelensky's 30-day Truce

Peskov repeated the thesis of Russian propaganda.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has said Ukraine is ready for a truce with Russia but insists on a 30-day ceasefire. The Kremlin responded by saying it was "waiting for an answer" on a three-day ceasefire.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov's comments to Russian media.

He said Russia's offer of a three-day ceasefire, which Russian dictator Putin made earlier, is supposedly a "test of Kiev's readiness" for a long-term peace.

- The purpose of Russia's proposed Easter truce, as well as the current initiative to declare a truce for the holidays, May 8, 9, 10, is to test Kiev's readiness to find ways for a long-term and sustainable peace between Russia and Ukraine. The Ukrainian authorities' reaction to Russia's initiative to introduce a ceasefire is a test of Ukraine's readiness for peace," Peskov asserted.

He also added that the Kremlin was waiting for "final statements" and reiterated the thesis of Russian propaganda by mentioning "neo-Nazism.

- We will wait not for ambiguous but definitive statements, and most importantly for actions aimed at de-escalating the conflict over the holidays," he said.

What preceded

In late April, Putin announced a three-day "truce" in May. Specifically, from zero hours on May 8 to 00:00 on May 10-11. Based on Putin's words, the "truce" envisages a complete halt to all hostilities. But as we know in the practice of the "Easter truce," the complete ceasefire was only in the air, but not on the front.

Today, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky again expressed readiness for a ceasefire, but noted that Ukraine insists on a 30-day ceasefire according to the proposed U.S. strategy. He also explained that in the short period of time offered by Russia - it is impossible to agree on anything.

- An unconditional ceasefire is the model that the Americans have proposed. We are following it. From this date or another - preferably earlier. Yes, let's try for 30 days. Why a 30-day ceasefire? Because it is impossible to agree on anything in three, five, seven days," the Ukrainian president said.
