In the Sumy region of Ukraine, the authorities have announced the evacuation of two towns near the Russian border - Bilopolye and Vorozhna. Flights of evacuation buses are planned, the head of Sumy district administration Mikhail Melnyk said on Facebook.
The reasons for the decision are not reported. The Sumy regional prosecutor's office reported that the Russian army actively shelled the two towns on May 5, killing three people, Radio Liberty reported.
Belopolye and Vorozhba are located near the border with Kursk region, near the village of Tetkino, their total population before the war was estimated at 21,000 people.
Earlier on Monday, Russian sources reported that fighting was taking place in the area, claiming that the Ukrainian army had broken through the border. Moscow and Kiev have not officially commented on this.
