Trump: Falling Oil Prices Could Bring Peace Closer In Ukraine

The U.S. president declared himself "well positioned to resolve" the war.
US President Donald Trump believes that lower global oil prices are making the economic situation much more difficult for Russia and could be a decisive factor in reaching a peace agreement with Ukraine.
He announced this to reporters at the White House, noting that Moscow and Kiev are ostensibly still interested in resolving the conflict.
"I think with the current price of oil, we're in a good position for a settlement," Trump said Monday. - They want a settlement, Ukraine wants a settlement. If I wasn't president, nobody would be negotiating."
On Monday, the price of U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude fell to $57.21 a barrel, down nearly 27 percent from the start of Trump's presidency. The drop in prices was due to OPEC's decision to increase production despite forecasts of lower demand amid trade disputes initiated by the Trump administration.
