All parliamentary factions have agreed to finalize the election of the chancellor by Friday.

The Bundestag will attempt a second attempt to elect a new German chancellor on Tuesday afternoon, according to a number of German media outlets, including Die Welt, European Truth reports.

According to parliamentary circles obtained by the publication, the CDU/CSU wants a second round today.

To do so would require a shortened second round, which in turn requires a two-thirds vote of MPs.

This would mean that a coalition of the CDU/CSU and SPD would depend on the Left Party or Alternative for Germany.

The CDU/CSU faction said all parliamentary factions have agreed to finalize the chancellor election by Friday.

The Bundestag election is scheduled to continue at 3 p.m. (local time) Tuesday.

The lower house of the German parliament has unexpectedly failed to elect Friedrich Merz as chancellor at the first attempt.

The coalition has decided to nominate Merz as chancellor for a second time.

It is worth noting that there are 328 deputies from the Christian Democratic Union and the SPD in the Bundestag, who have agreed on a coalition and agreed that Merz will become chancellor. Merz needs 316 votes to be elected chancellor.

The Conservative leader could be voted against by some of his associates.
