The prime minister's opponents called his trip a "disgrace."
Representatives of the Slovak opposition called Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo's visit to Moscow a disgrace for the country and a spit in the face of its allies in the European Union and NATO.
This was reported by "European Pravda".
Fitzo was the only leader from the EU member states who came to Moscow to celebrate May 9. The Slovak opposition said it would consider filing a criminal complaint against Fitzo on suspicion of treason.
"This is a disgrace for Slovakia, a betrayal of our national interests. The very trip to Moscow is one of the worst moments in Slovak foreign policy," Mihal Šimečka, chairman of the most powerful opposition force Progressive Slovakia, told reporters.
Slovak opposition politicians, who have long criticized Russia for its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, urged Fitzo in advance not to go to Moscow.
The opposition SaS party and the extra-parliamentary Forum and ODS parties, united in the Right Bloc initiative, criticized Fitzo's trip.
"This is a disgrace and a spit in the face of our foreign partners and allies in the European Union and NATO. These partners are forced to look at us as an unreliable partner, as an unreliable country with its leader at its head," SaS leader and Slovak National Council deputy Branislav Greling said.
