Reuters: US And Europe Have Prepared A Tough Ultimatum For Putin

The master of the Kremlin wants to face a choice.
The USA and European allies have almost agreed on a final proposal for a 30-day cease-fire in Ukraine. If Moscow refuses the proposal, the joint imposition of new sanctions is envisaged. This is reported by Reuters (translation - "Unian") with reference to a source in the French diplomatic institution.
The publication notes that the day before, US President Donald Trump repeated the call for a 30-day unconditional ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine and warned of the possibility of imposing sanctions jointly with partners if hostilities continue.
Ukraine has long agreed to the proposal, but Russia has tried to dodge, notably by unilaterally imposing a three-day ceasefire from May 8 to 10 to mark the 80th anniversary of the defeat of Hitler's Germany. Now Russia will be faced with a final choice.
- We have not yet fully finalized the draft, but we hope that we are at the stage of rapprochement. Within the next hours or days, a ceasefire could be announced, either for 30 days or in stages, which is still under discussion," the diplomatic source said on condition of anonymity.
According to the reporters' interlocutor, discussions are now continuing on whether Ukraine should declare a unilateral ceasefire, putting the Kremlin on notice, or whether it is still worth giving Russia some time to respond to the proposal itself. But in any case, if Russia refuses, new US and EU sanctions will be applied against it.
