He emphasized that modern warfare continues to change, and it's not just about rearmament.
On May 9, Ukraine's ambassador to Great Britain and Northern Ireland and former AFU commander-in-chief Valeriy Zaluzhny spoke at a security conference in London. There, he said that the North Atlantic Alliance is not ready for the challenges of a new war.
His words reported by Ukrainska Pravda. The politician emphasized that NATO "panically avoids expansion" at the expense of such countries as Ukraine, Moldova or Georgia because it is afraid of provoking Russia.
"Then the question arises: what is this alliance for if it is panic-stricken of having enemies? Can it then at least theoretically play a role in ensuring the security of some group of countries?" the report said.
Zaluzhny said that the fear of escalation casts doubt on the reality of applying NATO's Article 5 in the event of a large-scale war. In addition, he emphasized that modern warfare has fundamentally changed and continues to change. According to him, it is not just a question of rearmament or the development of drone technology, but the need for a full-fledged transformation of state defense policy.
- You need a new state policy. As it was once - in the times of taming atomic energy or space exploration. I'm talking about the continuing development of technology, I'm talking about new science, about production and, of course, about the use of armed forces. And these are new tactics, new organization, new doctrines, new training," the official said.
The ambassador stressed that even if the changes begin immediately, it will take the Alliance several years to reach the level the AFU is at today. In the meantime, technology and threats will continue to evolve, and NATO's resources could run out much faster if a new war engulfs several regions at once.
